The Indian community of PIOs/NRIs in Brazil is small, numbering about 2000 persons. A majority of them live in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Manaus. The community mainly comprises of professionals and businessmen and some scientists/researchers in agriculture, physics, etc. Most of the major Indian IT and pharmaceutical companies have their offices in Sao Paulo. In addition to IT & Pharma, major Indian companies like Aditya Birla group, the Tatas, Reliance, United Phosphorous, to name a few, are also operating in Sao Paulo.  There are also a few shops owned by individual Indians mostly selling Indian garments, handicrafts etc. There is an Indian Association in Sao Paulo
