The Indian community of PIOs/NRIs in Brazil is small, numbering about 2000 persons. A majority of them live in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Manaus. The community mainly comprises of professionals and businessmen and some scientists/researchers in agriculture, physics, etc. Most of the major Indian IT and pharmaceutical companies have their offices in Sao Paulo. In addition to IT & Pharma, major Indian companies like Aditya Birla group, the Tatas, Reliance, United Phosphorous, to name a few, are also operating in Sao Paulo.  There are also a few shops owned by individual Indians mostly selling Indian garments, handicrafts etc. There is an Indian Association in Sao Paulo ( http://www.indians.org.br/us/).  The Indian Cultural Centre in Sao Paulo is quite popular both among the Indian community and Brazilians and offers regular programmes covering dance, music, Indian cuisine and celebration of Indian as well as Brazilian festivals.
